The red light stops you
As it does every night And just like every night, you see it Desolate, at the same time alluring A hole in the wall, A portal to a lost dimension Where skeletons laze about all day Strung up by their necks Ominous but promising And spiderwebs weave from corner to corner Not yet ready to relinquish their reign Your usual seat waits patiently for you, The weathered wood creaks as you rest Your tired bones against it Inhale, exhale Tendrils of smoke curl towards the night A cloud escapes your mouth In a silent wave You care not where it goes It drifts away Oh, to be so nonchalant, so carefree As if tomorrow’s actions will never see today’s To have a life unstructured Untouched by rules, restrictions Expectations To spend night after night Drinking your worries away (As if you had any!) Listening to the quiet stories From other lost souls Looking for a place to haunt The guitar wails a sad melody Its owner simply mediates It lulls you in a peaceful dream The lights, pulsing behind the Wide-mouthed wines and whiskeys Whispering wisely from their perch Join us! What’s to lose? And you draw closer, Mesmerized by its toxic pull The possibility, that anything could happen You’re drawn towards it But the safety, the comfort, the green light Calls you home.
